September 18, 2018: Eat Your Way to Heart Health: Nutritional Concepts Combining Chinese and Western Medicines

Learn how to eat using nutrition concepts from both Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Participants will receive a new nutritional guide developed by our research team that combines the best knowledge from Chinese medicinal foods and standard Western nutritional guides – especially designed for people with high blood pressures or high cholesterols who want to eat and stay healthy.

Panel Moderator: Evelyn Y. Ho 何樂寧, PhD
Professor, University of San Francisco

Professor Evelyn Ho is a Health Communication expert who conducts research in the area of integrative health specifically focused on combining Chinese medicinal foods/nutrition with western medicine nutrition. She has worked on the creation of integrative nutritional counseling for type 2 diabetes and for heart health.

Don Ng 吳卓讚, MD
Medical Director, UCSF General Internal Medicine Clinic at the Mt. Zion campus.

Dr. Don Ng specializes in the cultural aspects of caring for Asian patients. Fluent in Cantonese, he helps educate patients about their illnesses and other health issues, particularly those affecting the Asian community such as Hepatitis B, cancer screening and smoking. In addition, Dr. Ng contributed to the development of the Heart Healthy Integrative Nutritional Counseling guide.

Sunny Pak 白幹, MD, MPH,
Assistant Medical Director, Chinatown Public Health Center Dr. Sunny Pak is a primary care doctor and acupuncturist serving a Chinese immigrant community using both TCM and Western medicine, and has conducted research on integrative medicine and nutrition.

Cewin Chao 趙熙玟, MS, RD, MBA
Director of Clinical Nutrition & Dietetic Internship in the Department of Nutritional & Food services at UCSF.

Cewin Chao is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for inpatient and outpatient clinical nutrition services at all UCSF Medical Center sites. She has extensive research experience in the areas of nutrition and contributed to the development of the Heart Healthy Integrative Nutritional Counseling guide.
